Innisfree - Green Tea Seed Serum Review

07:27:00

I was kind of disappointed by this highly raved product from Innisfree - Green Tea Seed Serum. Why?

On 21st January evening, I went to the Takashimaya Innisfree outlet to purchase the green tea series which the whole internet was raving about. I swipe the whole 'Oily Skin' series from the shelf as I saw many saying the Toner, Essence and Cream was great for acne prone skin + it doesn't cause any irritation.

As the Green Tea Seed Serum was the TOP seller and I was actually tempted by all the great reviews. I asked the promoter if it suits sensitive and oily skin and she said yes definitely. Hence, I went ahead with the purchase.

This is the packaging of the item,
What it claims to do:

(As taken from innisfree website)
A moisturizing serum with organic Jeju green tea and green tea seeds that hydrate your skin from deep within!

1. More moisture and freshness with 100% green tea.
Rich in amino acids and minerals, green tea from Jeju's own green tea leaves hydrates your skin.

2. Dual Moisture-Rising Technology™ derived from green tea and green tea seed oil
The fresh green tea deeply hydrates your skin and the green tea seed oil creates a strong moisture barrier to keep your skin moisturized longer.

3. The first thing to apply after a face wash!
As the first skincare product you use, it helps hold moisture in your skin and prevents moisture loss.

Note:For people with sensitive skin, this product contains alcohol. So if you have had a bad experience with alcohol once, you may want to stay away from this. But alcohol is actually a beneficial product for your skin too according to Google. It just depends whether your skin can take it.

I have really sensitive and acne prone skin, overall oily.

I used this product for 2 days.
| On 21st Jan, Night time. It looks fine still. I was thinking even if there was redness it might be cause I scrubbed my face too hard.
| On 22nd Jan, Morning time. It looks acceptable still but little bumps seems to appear. Regret not taking photo, meh. (Was too worried to really take a selfie actually..)
| On 22nd Jan, Night time. It looks red, flushing upon application. But the redness will go off after a few hours.

I slapped on a mask immediately when I saw redness hoping to calm my skin down. The mask that I am currently using is my all time favorite. I would seriously recommend to all the next time soon. It's really good and I swear by it.

It comes with a cover for hygiene purposes and also, easy for travel so it wouldn't spill and stain your stuffs.

The solution is watery. As you can see it's like flowing down. It's easy to blend. One pump would be sufficient for your whole face.

Upon blending, it looks lightweight. It's not very oily as it seems. In fact it dries up fast and leave no stickiness on skin. I guess this is because alcohol is present.

Till now, I am unsure which ingredient am I allergy to that my skin flushes and shows these tiny spots. It's a kind of disappointing, cause my face look much duller and 'old' when my face flushed red. A few bumps have yet to clear.

In the photo, this was after I used my favourite cooling mask so the redness went off. However there are still more tiny little bumps left. At first I only had one or two tiny bumps on my cheeks. However it formed more; tiny tiny ones.

| Packaging |
~ Green sturdy plastic bottle with a dispensable nuzzle. Comes with a cover to keep the product hygienic.

| Smell |
~ There's fragrance in the product. It smells good. A tint of green tea smell. But I hope the fragrance could be reduced to suit even more sensitive prone skin individuals.

| Color? |
~ Transparent but yellow hues. When applied it is totally transparent.

| Pros |
~ It smells really nice.
~ When applied it feels cooling, but red later for me as if I m sensitive to it.
~ The product is easy to dispense, hygienic and all you need is one pump for the whole face.
~ Lightweight, no oilyness left on skin upon application.

| Cons |
~ This product is not suitable for people with sensitive skin. I think?
~ Product contains alcohol.
~ Cause flushings?
~ Not very sure of it's function actually.

| Would I buy this again? |
No sorry! I would love to love this but I can't. My skin is protesting. I love innisfree a lot though sincerely, I am using 80% of my skincare products from them! Maybe if you skin is easily irritated, you should skip this product.

Update: I even went to buy more so I can be Innisfree VIP! Now I am :D

| Where to buy? |
Innisfree outlets in Singapore. I visited Jem & Takashimaya.

1/5 Hearts!

Although so, I still like their Green Tea Fresh Skin, Green Tea Fresh Essence and Green Tea Fresh Cream for now, will blog about it soon! ❤️

Update as of 30th September 2016:
I ain't allergic to Alcohol but this just doesn't help as it wasn't hydrating enough.

Update as of 15th April 2017:
This is like a first treatment essence. You are suppose to use this on a damp face. The first skincare product to be used after cleansing. I realized I did the steps wrongly earlier on. I had gotten a sample of it again but I will update after trying out.

Update as of 23rd June 2017:
This gave me a bad reaction again. My skin was crazily red everywhere on my face!

  1. Hi, I would like to know what cooling mask did you use or what did you do to calm your skin after the flare up because the bumps look similar to mine and I have very sensitive skin.

    1. Yep! I use either the aloe or AC dressing mask from Leaders Insolution. You can put it in the fridge and it will soothe your skin even better since it's cooling :) If you do exfoliating regularly, bumps may start to lessen. I still get a little now and then since I have very oily skin.

  2. Hello there! Based on my personal experience, the breakout on ur skin could perhaps be caused by the presence of "fragrance" in the ingredient list! I have sensitive, oily acne prone skin as well but after using the "Creme simon detox brightening facial cleanser" which contains fragrance as well caused me same types of breakouts as you in the pictures!:( the breakouts I had were in areas of my cheeks where I cleaned more frequently . I did some research and learnt that fragrance is an ingredient that frequently causes acne!(http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-2227887/Scents-sensitivity-As-perfumed-beauty-products-blamed-allergies-brands-going-fragrance-free.html) I immediately stopped using the cleanser and my face became much better!:)
This is just my personal experience so just thought I would like to share with ya to keep a lookout! (: Love your blog layout and content! Keep writing!(:

    1. Hello felicia! Yeah! but weirdly i was amazed by their green tea skin toner which i m sticking with for a year already. It's weird I had a reaction to this. My skin just turn so red :( Saw reviews where many had the same/similar problem like us too :( It's kinda sad cause it's not cheap + it's innisfree's best seller :/ Thank you for your kind words and thoughts! I appreciate it a lot <3

  3. Hi Jean, I also have an oily acne prone face as well. I tried innisfree greentea seed serum just for few days, and somehow I spread some on my neck. Imagine the breakouts on my neck! The horror! I immediately stop using it TT__TT and switch to nature republic aloe vera. It's almost Feb and I'm still treating the breakouts on my neck huhuhu

    1. Oh no that's horrible!! :( I heard NR Aloe Vera gel is very good at soothing, I hope your skin recovers fast! Although this product ingredients on Cosdna seems to have low irritants and relatively safe, I am not totally so sure why it can still cause such a big allergy and to quite a number of people ._. Plus they had labelled it's their best seller >_<

Take care yeah, I hope it recovers soon for u! xo
